City of Sparks Traffic Calming Guidelines

Many agencies are developing guidelines and policies for traffic calming.  Traffic calming is a methodology to influence motorist behavior and prevent undesirable driving practices.  Traffic calming is generally achieved with physical measures that reduce vehicle speeds, reduce traffic volumes, discourage through traffic on local streets, minimize conflicts between street users, and enhance the environment.  The City of Sparks was interested in applying appropriate traffic calming with the goals of improving neighborhood safety and livability.  This guide presents recommended traffic calming guidelines for the City of Sparks.  The guidelines are applicable to new developments and existing neighborhoods. The guidelines contain descriptions of traffic calming measures, recommendations for use of specific traffic calming measures and recommendations for design of traffic calming measures.

RTC of Washoe County Flexible Pavement Design Manual

Each year the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) leads the effort in numerous roadway improvements throughout the Washoe County.  The majority of roadways in need of rehabilitation or reconstruction are flexible pavements.  RTC recommends the use of the 1993 edition of the American Association of State Highways and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) “Guide for Design of Pavement Structures,” and excerpts have been incorporated into this pavement design manual.  The objective of this flexible pavement design manual is to provide RTC, other agencies in Washoe County, and consultant pavement designers with a uniform and detailed procedure for designing asphalt concrete pavements on RTC projects using AASHTO design procedures.  The manual provides specific design input parameters and identifies the steps necessary to achieve consistent layer thickness designs based on local practices.
